‘It’s so nice actually talking properly openly with someone who has been there. I bet a lot of people feel like I do’ – PARENTS Online User September 2021
PARENTS Online is a platform where parents and carers can reach out via a text-based confidential chat online to receive support from a trained support worker with their own experiences of parenting. The support worker will listen to any problems, issues or anxieties about whatever the parent or carer may be facing. It is a safe space to talk openly without judgement, about anything.
The Covid-19 pandemic brought many new difficulties for parents and carers with illnesses, homeschooling challenges, job losses, loss of earnings, and mental health worries. In July 2021 The Cellar Trust, a mental health charity in Bradford, identified a gap in provision; this service was launched to give parents and carers the support they deserve. Due to extensive demand the service has quickly increased from 2 evenings a week to now being running every single weeknight, Monday-Friday 6pm-9pm.
We are delighted to offer PARENTS Online with the support of Brathay Trust, a UK-wide young people’s and family charity, and Andy’s Man Club who are a men’s mental health charity. By delivering this service in collaboration with them we hope to show all parents that it’s OK to talk about their struggles and we aim to significantly help with the mental health of families.
